In recent years, reforms in Ukraine's medical system have taken place without relying on statistics on the number of people with diabetes. Official data exist for 2017. At the time, the Ministry of Health reported nearly 1,300,000 people with diabetes in Ukraine. Since 2018, the Ministry of Health has abolished the registration of such patients. Until 2021, in fact, only patients with diabetes who received insulin were counted. Those data were entered into the electronic Register of Patients in Need of Insulin Therapy. Currently, the figures of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) on the number of people with diabetes in Ukraine are almost twice as high, than it according to the Ministry of Health. IDF includes in the statistics of people with undiagnosed diabetes.
